Post-Treatment Instructions for Teeth Whitening

Congratulations on your teeth whitening treatment! To preserve your bright smile and enjoy long-lasting results, follow these instructions carefully.

1. Smoking

  • Avoid Smoking: Refrain from smoking for at least 48 hours to prevent stains and allow your teeth to rehydrate properly.

2. Diet Restrictions

  • Avoid Staining Foods and Drinks: For the first week , steer clear of items that can stain your teeth, such as:
    • Red sauces, blueberries, coffee, tea, red wine, and similar items.

3. Sensitivity

  • Temporary Sensitivity:
    • You may experience mild sensitivity to hot or cold liquids for 1-2 days. This is normal and should subside. If needed, take over-the-counter pain relief (e.g., 1 Ibuprofen with 2 Acetaminophens, if no allergies exist).
  • Gum Sensitivity:
    • If gums feel sensitive, avoid brushing the affected area until it heals.

4. Whitening Results

  • Immediate Results:
    • Teeth may look brighter due to dehydration from the whitening process. This will normalize as your teeth rehydrate, resulting in a natural white tone.
  • Long-Term Results:
    • Results depend on habits and your original tooth shade. Smoking and consuming colored beverages like coffee or tea can shorten the longevity of your whitening results.
  • Touch-Up Treatments:
    • Consider touch-ups every 6-12 months to maintain your bright smile.

5. Restorations

  • Dental Work Limitations:
    • Fillings, crowns, and other restorations won’t whiten. You may need to replace or adjust them to match your new tooth shade.

6. Food and Drink Recommendations

  • For the first week , follow these guidelines:
    • Safe to Consume:
    • Drinks: Milk, water, clear soft drinks.
    • Fruits: Bananas, peeled apples.
    • Foods: White bread, plain yogurt, white rice, white sauces, skinless chicken, turkey, and white fish.
    • Avoid:
    • Drinks: Red wine, coffee, tea, dark sodas.
    • Fruits: Grapes, berries, or any fruit with strong color.
    • Foods: Red meat, red sauces, soy sauce, mustard, ketchup, and chocolate.
    • Other: Tobacco products, lipsticks, and colored mouthwash or toothpaste.

7. Maintenance Tips

  • Home Whitening Trays:
    • Use custom trays and whitening gel for touch-ups. Additional gel is available for purchase.
  • Good Oral Hygiene:
    • Brush, floss, and clean your tongue regularly.
  • Routine Dental Visits:
    • Schedule professional dental cleanings to maintain your whitening results and overall oral health.
